A community-backed play area upgrade for East-the-Water, delivered on behalf of Torridge District Council. Local residents fundraised to support the project and schoolchildren voted on the winning design, choosing a scheme that blends jungle adventure with nautical elements inspired by Bideford's historic shipbuilding heritage. The centrepiece is a HAGS UniPlay Viking ship multi-play structure with climbing nets, steering wheel, bridges and slides, set within blue wetpour surfacing adorned with 2D sea creature graphics. Surrounding jungle-themed zones feature combination swings with cradle and inclusive basket seats, a wheelchair-accessible Spinmee roundabout, and 3D themed sculptures. Accessible Agri-Flex pathways connect every play zone, and the entire site is enclosed by bow-top galvanised fencing with self-closing safety gates. All equipment is certified to EN 1176 and surfacing installed to EN 1177 standards. The project was completed in three weeks, on programme and within budget.
